Role summary
The Director of Communications leads Operativo US’s communications function across the firm’s brand, thought leadership, media relations, and client communications support. This is a senior, bilingual (English-Spanish) role responsible for shaping messaging, managing high-volume deliverables across diverse clients, and ensuring Operativo’s voice and work product are consistently strategic, culturally fluent, and high quality. The role partners closely with account teams to translate strategy into press, narrative, executive communications, and rapid response materials across multiple sectors, including political, advocacy, and philanthropy.

Reports to Operativo’s Founder and CEO

Core responsibilities Multi-client communications leadership and counsel
Serve as senior communications strategist across a portfolio of clients, balancing priorities, timelines, and approvals across multiple accounts simultaneously.

Translate client objectives into clear narrative strategy, messaging frameworks, and communications plans that align with campaign or organizational goals.

Lead development of high-stakes deliverables across clients, including talking points, press releases, op-eds, statements, speeches, scripts, memos, FAQs, and rapid response pieces.

Ensure consistent quality control across all client-facing communications, including message discipline, tone, structure, and strategic intent.

Manage client approvals and stakeholder inputs efficiently, navigating sensitive dynamics and ensuring deliverables are accurate and on deadline.

Provide bilingual review and adaptation, ensuring Spanish-language materials are culturally competent, precise, and built for the intended audience and media ecosystem.

Media relations and earned media (firm and client support)
Build and maintain relationships with reporters, editors, producers, and key outlets relevant to Operativo and priority client accounts.

Lead proactive pitching and reactive press engagement across multiple clients, coordinating closely with account leads on strategy and timing.

Prepare spokespeople and principals for interviews, including briefing memos, message guidance, tough Q and A, and prep sessions.

Develop and maintain media lists by beat, geography, language, and audience, tailored to different client needs.

Business development support
Support proposals and new business pitches by developing case studies, capabilities language, and communications sections for decks and written submissions.

Contribute to partnership and visibility opportunities that strengthen Operativo’s profile and network.

Required qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in communications, PR, political communications, advocacy, or public affairs
in
- Demonstrated success managing communications deliverables across multiple clients or campaigns simultaneously
- Fluent English and Spanish writing, editing, and message development
- Strong earned media instincts and experience working with reporters and spokespeople
- Excellent judgment, discretion, and ability to operate under pressure and tight deadlines
- Highly organized, systems-oriented, and collaborative working style.

Key Responsibilities:

Campaign Support: Assist in the development and execution of comprehensive campaign strategies, ensuring alignment with client goals and objectives.

Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough research on relevant topics, stakeholders, and policy issues to inform campaign strategies and messaging.

Communication and Messaging: Contribute to the development of compelling messaging that resonates with target audiences and supports client objectives.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, Public Policy, Business Administration or a related field.Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus, not required. Excellent research and analytical abilities.Highly motivated individual with a can-do attitude with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.Prior experience in communications, and PR required.
